You will also learn to trim your pieces, explore basic tableware shapes, and practice problem-solving techniques for common challenges such as centring, wall thickness, or shaping and making handles. Emma BIO I’m a ceramics artist based in Warkworth, New Zealand, originally from Shenzhen, China. Working under the name Rui Ceramics—drawn from my Chinese name Rui Rui, meaning “the first snow of spring”—I blend cultural traditions with inspiration drawn from the landscapes that surround me. The beaches near my home are a constant source of creative energy. I mix my own glazes, guided by the earthy tones of local sand and soil and the shifting blues and greens of the sea. My practice centers on creating functional, thoughtfully made domestic ware that brings a sense of calm, warmth, and connection to everyday life. Dedicated to continually growing as a maker, I regularly attend workshops at Auckland Studio Potters. I’m passionate about sharing what I’ve learned, especially with younger or emerging makers who are finding their own voice in clay. Prerequisite: All welcome.
