2025 Hibiscus and Bays Art Award Winners Exhibition

As part of the winnning award package, artists are invited to take part in a group exhibition featuring their new artworks.

Jocelyn Friis
My art is a gentle nudge to pause a while, and to reflect on how we can bring peace, hope and contentment to our lives.
Through my work, I share the message that art is for everyone and that engaging with both creativity and nature can foster peace and harmony.
Outstanding Artist Award in Sculpture:
Chris Wadsworth
The natural radiance of his materials, combined with vivid colour blends and smooth ombré effects, recalls the vibrant visual culture of the 1980s—when synth-driven music, neon fashion, and UV light shaped a new language of play and expression.
Māori Art Award:
Sandy Gaskell
Sandy’s interest in the history of Aotearoa and the effects colonialism and Te Tiriti O Waitangi have had on tangata whenua, are the inspiration behind her more creative art pieces.
Youth Award Winner:
Amber Boyd
Amber is a year 12 student at Orewa College whose interest lies in our natural work and specialises in realism painting in Oils or detailed drawings.
Ceramic Merit winner:
Gail Smith
Gail is a local potter on the Hibiscus Coast whose functional work is decorated in a painterly manner. Gail is now exploring sculptural kete and wahine.
