About
The Northland Panels by Robin Davies
POA
Robin's childhood in Whangarei was inspired by the Art of his Grandfather and Father who were both from Southampton. Robin majored in Art at Ardmore Teachers' College and attended prelim art classes at Elim (University of Auckland).
During his early teaching career he was influenced by Northland artists such as Muru Walters, Ralph Hotere, Buck Nin, Katerina Mataira and Kura Te Waru Rewiri.
He has since followed NZ expressionist landscape painters. Robin has exhibited in galleries in Whangarei, Helensville, Waipu and Orewa.
After meeting the iconic Austrian artist Hundertswasser in 1973 Robin introduced Hundertswasser's immaginative colourful paintings to his art class pupils to encourage bold, joyful creations. THE NORTHLAND PANELS, is Robin's first majoy work using oils and is inspired by the vibrant Northland environment of coast, forest and historic links with Maori culture.
