This workshop will inspire you to examine new ways of looking at the problems of life drawing.

In the Sculpting session, working from a life model, we look at how to see line, mass and shapes/planes and build them 3-dimensionally in three materials. This helps build understanding of volume and how a figure occupies space. We translate this knowledge into 2-dimensional drawings made from the models as we go.
Life Drawing: Key Strategies builds on your understanding of volume, and how it translates into drawn, or pictorial space. This session, again with a life model, guides you through contour and gesture drawing, line quality, creating form, using compositional tools, and trialling a range of
media and techniques.

In the final session, Painting from a Life Model, we build further on ways to capture the human figure, using the fluid and immediate medium of paint. You will be guided through painting strategies using various media: “Thick to thin”, pastel and wash, Alla Prima, preparing grounds,
drybrush sketching, wet-on-wet, painting over a ground, and mass-gesture painting.

The sessions are planned to engage and extend experienced artists, while also providing complete guidance for beginners. The large, light studio has an excellent ambiance, and the teaching environment is informative, friendly and inclusive.

It will be a good exercise in understanding geometry and  volume. Javier will be doing a demo at the same time step by step.
Intensive classes are a good way to have a peek of the artist´s methodology and philosophy of work. The end goal is to provide strong foundations to lead students towards getting the confidence they need to make their work.
Javier Murcia is an artist with more than 20 years of experience in the art and the entertainment industry. Trained as a figurative sculptor with a particular interest in anatomy, he has developed a style that plays with the form and the drama in the intention of capturing the soul on his work.

A Taste of Raku with EAC potters

Raku generally refers to a type of low-firing process that was inspired by traditional Japanese raku firing. Western-style raku usually involves removing pottery from the kiln while at bright red heat and placing it into containers with combustible materials. Once the materials ignite, the containers are closed
Enjoy the action, fire and fun involved in a Raku firing. Take your pre-made bisque item, glaze it and then watch the magic of fire, smoke and water do its magic. Leave with a completed fired item
